I might be able to move a little on some of these prices. There's always the possibility I have something priced WAY too low, too. Let me know.

Koth's Guide for Noobs

Note – instructions and opinions here are solely Koth’s. Take with the appropriate grain of salt…

Welcome to *Y*

You’ve joined one of the most active guilds in Movoda. We work together to help each other advance in level and have a lot of fun doing it along the way. Here is a quick guide to getting started in *Y* Guild.

First – be respectful!: As you will shortly see, there is a lot of kidding and teasing that goes on in guild chat. We do ask, though, that you be respectful of other guild members. It might be hard to see the line between kidding and harassment, at first, but you’ll probably pick it up pretty quickly. Some of us have very thick skins, but we can be provoked. If someone is feeling uncomfortable about what you are saying…then stop saying it.

Guild leader: Our glorious leader is Josy. He does occasionally leave the guild to work somewhere else, so he might not be on the guild roster. He’ll eventually be back. For other questions you can talk to Soappy.

Guild compound: Our guild compound is located in Galawi. Here you will find important things like guild stores where you can request gear and combat food, buildings to advance skills like kitchens and smithies, and shops where you can buy and sell. You might want to consider building a house in Galawi to help you when you are working at the compound.

Guild stores: We have several storage buildings in the compound where we keep various raw materials and finished items. We will give you basic gear for every skill if you ask for it. To request items, follow these steps:

• Travel to Galawi
• In the left menu click on “*Y* Guild”
• In the center window, scroll down until you see one of the storage buildings – the names should explain what is in each, more or less. Click on the name of a building.
• Now in the center window click on the item you would like to request from guild stores, then put in a quantity. We usually give out items two at a time, because they break sometimes.
• When someone approves your request, you can then click on the building and you will see your items ready for pickup.

We ask that when you request materials for some skill like cooking the only real requirement is that you be able to complete the skill with 100% success. For example, we will give you raw fish and lumber, but only if you can cook them with 100% success. Please see the various skill pages for information about success rates. Anything finished products you make (cooked fish, crafted items, etc.) should be returned to guild stores.

Guild workshops: We have workshops for every skill, and in most cases working here is faster than working in the corresponding workshop outside of the guild. In many cases there is far less crowding, so it’s going to be faster anyways. To work in a shop you will click on the name of the shop, then click on what you are making. If you are confused, ask for help. We’ll probably give you some grief, but we’ll also give you some help.

Guild shops: There are two places to buy and sell in the compound – Honesty Shop and Josy’s Green Groceries. When you click on the name of each shop you will see what is bought and sold in that shop. Please feel free to sell your drops to the shops if you desire. If you don’t see something that you’ve seen in the past, it probably means we’re out. This happens with timer foods. If something isn’t available, talk to Josy and he’ll probably be able to move more of it from outside storage to the shop.

Guild greenhouses: The guild has several greenhouses. Once you get to harvesting level 12 you can plant wheat, if you so desire. The greenhouses have two uses. First, they are used to plant guild crops. Anyone can help harvest these crops, but everything you pick has to be returned to the guild. The other thing greenhouses are used for is personal crops. You can request use of a greenhouse and plant your own crops for later harvest. This is important – ask first. Not only do the leaders have to manage use of the greenhouses, but they also have to rename the greenhouse so we know how it’s being used. See the harvesting guide below for details.

Donating to the guild: First – you don’t really have to donate anything, particularly as a new player. Guild shops are set up to buy items from you to generate income. The vessi you get from selling stuff could be used to buy foods to speed things up. This is really your choice. If you do want to donate to the guild, it is greatly appreciated. You donate items to the guild by putting them into the appropriate storehouse. Word on the street has it that people who donate are more likely to get spells from the high level players, but there is a certain randomness to it. Bottom line – help the guild and the guild is better able to help you.

From time to time the guild will ask for help in the form of materials or work done. Keep an eye out for such requests and lend a hand as you are able.

Asking for spells: This is a little bit touchy in my opinion. As a new player you do not have access to magic, until you reach character level 10. But there are a lot of higher level players running around who can cast spells like excite (speed), diggers (mining), choppers (woodcutting), gatherers (harvesting) and hot hands (cooking). Generally players are willing to cast spells on you if they have spare MP available. But keep in mind that these players are also using their spells to advance their own skills. So sometimes when you ask, they are simply not available. Also, learn how to ask nicely. Just shouting out, “I need diggers” isn’t going to make some of us willing to cast on you. Keep in mind that you can also ask in world chat. Players “in the wild” are often willing to cast on you. Last thing – you will probably have to travel to get your spells. If you are digging in Droesar you may have to move to Galawi to get diggers, or something like that for what you are doing. Players who can cast may be doing something and they don’t want to move to cast spells. Be nice and offer to travel to them to get spells. Players who ask nicely get more spells, and often get the people who cast them to come to you. (Again – this is all just my opinion…)

Construction

There are three tasks you can do in construction as a new player:
• Saw logs into lumber
• Build houses
• Build boats

You should use the sawmill in the guild to saw logs – it’s much faster. You will use lumber not only for building houses and boats, but also for cooking and smelting. If you can use a log or lumber, then do yourself a favor and use lumber. Sawing logs to lumber gives 10 construction experience and only takes 10 seconds per log, once you get up a few levels.

You will want to build yourself a house to store things. At first it doesn’t seem like you will need one, much, but as you go along you’ll often wish you had more houses! Many of us build our first house in Galawi, near the guild compound. You might also wish to build one near the places where you do certain skills. Some players forgo construction and just buy houses. If you are going to buy, make sure you’re getting a good deal before you spend your hard-earned vessi.

You can get more information on the construction page: http://movoda.net/man/construction

Woodcutting

Woodcutting is something you’ll probably be doing a lot of when you first start playing Movoda. Woodcutting provides you with logs that you need to make lumber at the guild sawmill. That lumber can then be used for cooking, smelting and construction.
You will need a bronze hatchet to cut wood. If you will request two at the guild compound, we’ll give them to you. We give you two because one might break. Then proceed to Rissdra to start chopping. Woodcutting, like every skill is kind of slow. Be patient, it eventually gets better. While you are cutting you may receive apples or acorns. Both of these items can be sold or donated to the guild. You might want to sell them so you can buy timer foods, explained below. Logs or lumber can also be sold to the guild, or donated if you are so inclined.

There are ways that woodcutting can be sped up. First is with a “chopper” spell. When a chopper is cast on you, you will get a 3-second deduction in your woodcutting time, up to a minimum timer of 15-seconds. It is possible that someone might cast multiple choppers on you, giving you a greater deduction in time. For example, if someone casts 4 choppers on you, you will get a reduction of 12-seconds. The length of time a chopper lasts depends on the spell level of the caster. Don’t worry about this for now, it will become clear later.

The other way you can reduce woodcutting time is through timer foods. The available foods for woodcutting, and their effects are:
• Stews, -2 woodcutting time for 30 minutes
• Shark squibs, -3 woodcutting time for 20 minutes
There are other foods, but you don’t need to worry about those for now. Stews are usually available for sale in the guild compound. Stews can get expensive, but they are worth it because they speed things up.

The other two things that speed up woodcutting are equipment and woodcutting levels. You won’t be able to use other equipment until you get a few levels. While you are chopping you might want to read more about the woodcutting skill at http://movoda.net/man/Woodcutting
